translating
her story
I’m Karla King, a self taught artist who use fine art and poetry to tell stories that celebrates women’s strength and vulnerability, as well as their complex relationship with self-image and societal expectations. I primarily work with digital and acrylic mediums, to create vivid artwork with layers of emotions and depth. Each piece is deeply personal and often paired with poem to give viewers more context behind the stories they tell.
My art is meant to be more than just an expression, it is a conversation. By channelling my feelings, dreams and experiences, it becomes a dialogue between the canvas and my audience. Bridging the gap between traditional fine art and modern digital techniques, I aim to create art that is not only visually captivating but also encourages others to look a bit deeper within themselves and the world around them.

Mediums
a play on both worlds
I appreciate the sense of freedom I get navigating traditional and digital mediums. Digital art offers me endless flexibility, allowing me to create wherever and whenever inspiration strikes. It brings a sense of playfulness into my process, where I experiment freely and discover new possibilities with each creation. However, the additional complexity that comes with painting on canvas will always be next to none. It’s a true test of my patience (trust the process) and technique. I'm always in awe to see these skills develop with each piece.
Poetry
Each artwork is paired with a poem that brings its story to life. The combination of visual art and the written word is my way of expressing the emotions that may not fully come through on the canvas. Although, I appreciate leaving some aspects open to interpretation, I also value clarity. Poetry is my way of helping viewers to connect with my intentions and understand the essence behind each piece.
Journal
Exploring my curiosity
Creating art that is a translation of her story will always be my driving force to create. However, this artistic journey is not confined to a single narrative and so I like to explore it. Exploring different subject matters or mediums that are often inspired by my dreams, or special requests are what you can find in my jorunal.
For me, Art is more than a visual display.
it’s a process of transformation,
healing, and discovery.
