The Rebellious Ones

Acrylic on Canvas, 50x70cm

This painting tells a love story of two intertwined cultures, celebrating freedom and liberation from oppression. The woman depicted is a descendant of a Maroon warrior clan, embodying the dreams of her ancestors. Her face bears symbols of lineage and modernity. The turban she wears binds hope and grace, linking her heritage with the Irish shamrock, representing the shared history she carries with her partner. The Irish flowers and shades of blue symbolize security, prosperity, and the unity of their journey.

My Process

Creating this piece took me on an emotional journey, reminding me of my love for painting after a long hiatus. The complexity of this piece, from the vibrant use of color to the intricate symbolism blending cultures, was an eye-opening experience. This process solidified my desire to pursue art professionally. It’s not just a portrait; it represents my growth, and the moment I realized I wanted my art to speak for others, telling their stories and inspiring with meaning.
